Appointment of Chief Operating Officer

The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) has confirmed the appointment of John Jenkins as Chief Operating Officer.

John will join ONR on 11 June, having held senior roles in a number of leading multi-disciplinary consultancies. He will oversee the delivery of ONR’s programmes and will be an executive member of the ONR Board and a senior member of its executive management team.

John said:

“I am looking forward to starting work with the Office for Nuclear Regulation and am particularly excited to be joining at a time of significant change, as it moves towards statutory corporation status. It is evident that ONR has a fantastic reservoir of skills and experience from which to draw, and to build and maintain its standing as a modern, world-leading regulator in the challenging times ahead.”

John will report to UK Chief Inspector of Nuclear Installations and executive head of ONR, Mike Weightman. Mike said:

“I am delighted to welcome John to the team at the Office for Nuclear Regulation. He brings 25 years of experience of engineering and management to a role that is central to the successful delivery of our future activities. John will have responsibility for ensuring our programmes are effective and efficient, and deliver our purpose - to secure the protection of people and society from the activities of the nuclear industry.”
