Mina Golshan, a Fault Studies inspector working in the Sellafield Programme team was recently invited to speak at the 2012 Emergency Management Issues Specials Interest Group (EMI SIG) Conference in Seattle, Washington.

This was the first time that ONR had been invited to participate in this annual event. The meeting, hosted by Mission Support Alliance, was held May 14-17, 2012. Mina’s contribution ‘Severe Accident Analysis and Management Strategies with particular emphasis on non-reactor facilities’ won an award for the ‘Best Contribution’ at the event.

Mina said’ the conference was a great forum to present the work in a practical context, showing the strength of our regulatory regime and I am very grateful that I was given the opportunity to represent ONR’.

Amongst the speakers at the event were former Whitehouse advisors, senior members of the Department of Energy and prominent academics. The theme of the 2012 EMI SIG Annual Meeting was “Launching Emergency Management Leadership,” which reflected the key role that effective leadership plays in establishing and maintaining sound emergency preparedness, management, and response at sites and facilities.
