ONR has served Jacobs E&C Ltd with an Improvement Notice to improve its management of temporary works associated with the construction phase of the tails management facility at the Capenhurst nuclear licensed site of Urenco UK Ltd in Cheshire. The temporary works are required to enable the permanent facility to be built.
The Improvement Notice was issued following an ONR inspection to assess compliance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007 at the tails management facility. The inspection included a review of Jacobs E&C Ltd procedures for the planning, management and monitoring of temporary works in their role as Principal Contractor.
ONR is satisfied that the issue does not have an impact on nuclear safety. Jacobs E&C Ltd are now required to make appropriate improvements to their management of temporary works at the facility by 19 December 2014.
