ONR has served an Improvement Notice on BAE Systems Marine Ltd for failure to demonstrate that only suitably qualified and experienced persons perform any duties which may affect safety of operations at the Devonshire Dock Complex nuclear licensed site in Barrow-in-Furness.
The Improvement Notice follows an inspection conducted by ONR and the Defence Nuclear Safety Regulator which identified that previous commitments to improve the arrangements had not been fulfilled. BAE Systems Marine Ltd are now required to submit a programme of improvements to ONR, including key milestones and will provide regular updates to demonstrate progress in this area. Until the improvements have been made, ONR will ensure that appropriate interim arrangements are in place to ensure the safety of specific nuclear-related activities.
BAE Systems Marine are required to make the appropriate improvements by 31 December 2015.
