Nuclear Cooperation Agreements: implementation guidance for operators

Technical guidance for nuclear operators on post-Brexit reporting requirements related to Nuclear Cooperation Agreements has been published by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), and is open for comment until 31 August 2019.

The joint BEIS/ONR guidance covers future reporting requirements for operators and will allow the UK to comply with Nuclear Cooperation Agreements and other obligations arising from international trade following the UK’s withdrawal from Euratom.

The guidance covers a number of areas, including expectations on operators relating to relevant provisions of the Nuclear Safeguards (EU Exit) Regulations 2019 and export licensing requirements.

It will take effect from 1 November 2019 if the UK leaves the EU with no deal on 31 October or 1 January 2021 (at the end of the implementation period) if the government agree a deal with the European Union.
