Sellafield Limited has complied with an ONR Improvement Notice relating to staff training, operating procedures and procedural adherence.
The notice was served under the Nuclear Site Licence following an incident at the Waste Vitrification Plant in Cumbria when a vitrified waste container was decontaminated without the container lid being welded shut.
After months of regulatory scrutiny, ONR is now satisfied that Sellafield Limited has made the required improvements to the training of the Container Handling and Waste operators, the associated operating procedures and adherence to them and therefore the requirements of the Improvement Notice have now been met.
