As the UK regulator for nuclear safety and security, ONR is member of the Western European Nuclear Regulators Association, WENRA, that aims to develop a harmonised approach to nuclear safety. The European Union’s Nuclear Safety Directive requires the countries to undertake a "topical peer review", which aims to promote a common understanding, ensure the sharing knowledge and experience and improve transparency of nuclear safety issues across Europe. The subject of the first peer review is 'ageing management of nuclear reactors', for which WENRA has prepared a Technical Specification open until 30 November 2016 to all interested parties for comment.
