ONR signs contract for safeguards IT system

The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR), the nuclear safety and security regulator, has awarded the contract for delivery of the UK Nuclear Safeguards Information Management and Reporting System (SIMRS) IT system necessary for ONR to establish a domestic safeguards regime after the UK’s withdrawal from the Euratom Treaty.

Following a robust, competitive procurement process, the contract has been awarded to Axis 12 Ltd, a UK company experienced in developing and hosting secure IT services for the public sector. Axis 12 Ltd has partnered with NAC International, a US corporation specialising in the development and operation of nuclear material control and accounting systems.

Axis 12 Ltd is contracted to deliver ONR’s requirements for SIMRS in time for the system to run in parallel with Euratom.

Work on the ‘discovery’ phase of the project is scheduled to complete by 15 June 2018, with development and testing completed by 31 December 2018.
